The ancient process of malting has gone through significant change over the centuries that it has been carried out. Large amounts of energy and water are used in creating malt and the last 100 years has seen major developments in processing efficiency; maltsters have been at the forefront of these innovative in engineering developments, and this continues today.
The MAGB is committed to a sustainable future and has an active programme of promoting and developing this within its membership we have developed an Environmental Strategy which outlines commitments from both MAGB and members malting businesses.
All malting companies have active programmes to minimise their impact on the environment and many publish details on their company websites. This work has been ongoing for many years and the following are examples that illustrate our members commitment to a sustainable future.
