Preparing for handover at MAGB
CHANGES AT THE MALTSTERS ASSOCIATION OF GREAT BRITAIN.Changes will shortly be taking place within the Maltsters Association of Great Britain. Ivor Murrell will retire from his role as Director General of the MAGB at their AGM on November 7th 2006, having so effectively carried out that duty for thirteen years, and having been actively involved in UK malting for 25 years prior to that.During the period that Ivor has been Director General of the MAGB there have been considerable changes in the malting industry and a major development of the services and support that the trade asssociation now offers its membership.
Under a new arrangement Ivor's duties will be split, and shared between two people. He has expressed his delight that the task is passing into such talented and experienced hands.The MAGB Administrator, Jennie Richards will extend her coverage of the administration tasks and will carry out some of the representational duties for the MAGB.
The core part of the Associations Executive role will be covered by the new position of "Executive Director".The MAGB is very pleased to announce that Colin West has been appointed to this role of MAGB Executive Director, and will commence employment on October 1st, to fully assume that role on Ivor Murrell's retirement.
Colin West has been most recently acting as a senior independent consultant to the dairy industry, and has also been involved in interim management in the malting industry. His wide range of knowledge and experience of both the malting and brewing industries make him ideally suited for his new role at the MAGB.From 2001 to 2004 he was Director and General Manager of Muntons Malted Ingredients, following four years as Production Director of Muntons plc responsible for the operations of three major maltings and a food ingredients factory.From 1988 to 1997 he was General Manager of Carlsberg-Tetley Maltsters, and a Director of that Company from 1993.Colin qualified as a Master Brewer in 1981, having been involved in various production and technical roles first at Romford Brewery Co and then at Ind Coope Burton Brewery Ltd between 1976 and 1988.He has been an examiner for both the MAGB Malting Diploma and the Institute of Brewing and Distilling Master Brewer examination, and is a Fellow of The Institute of Brewing and Distilling.The MAGB secretariat looks forward to continuing to develop and enhance its services for the UK malting industry.
